Inside the PARCC – A Home Run for
The results for year two of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) have arrived and are certainly no less impressive than those of year one. In fact, the report indicates that Wandell students performed at a higher level in most test areas in 2016 than the previous year. Our students continue to impress by their level of achievement despite the increased rigor of the assessment and the demands of new standards. Parents should take pride in this outstanding accomplishment as this level of performance will place our students among the highest performing, if not the highest performing, in our area as well as the state of New Jersey. Teachers can reflect positively on the hard work they dedicated to preparing our students and thereby enabling them master the skills necessary to attain this level of success. Lastly, the Saddle River community can celebrate the Wandell School results and feel confident that our students are well prepared to face future challenges at every level of their education. My congratulations go out to our students, their supportive families and all Wandell stakeholders for this outstanding display of academic achievement!
A Message from OUR NEW Interim-Superintendent
MR. Louis J. DeLisio
MR. Louis J. DeLisio
I’m pleased to welcome everyone back to Wandell School for the 2016-2017 school year. As your new Interim Superintendent/Principal, I’m looking forward to working with our staff and parents/guardians to make this year enjoyable and successful for our students. Saddle River should be proud of the outstanding academic achievements of these children and I am committed to assisting them in continuing this level of success and beyond. A school is generally considered to be the hub of every community and Wandell is no exception. It is a place that brings adults together for a common cause and to support our most precious asset. The tremendous attention our children receive from this community truly makes our school unique and serves to enhance the educational experience for them. As the school year progresses I encourage all parents/guardians to be active participants in the educational process. This is the most effective way to insure our students are successful at every level.
Several construction projects, or system upgrades, have occurred during the summer in an effort to enhance the security of the building and improve communications for students and parents. The vestibule addition at the main entrance and the installation of the new communications (phone) system will be completed shortly after the opening of school in September. Some minor construction will continue as school opens, but I do not anticipate any impact on instruction as a result of this. Since the safety of our children is of the utmost importance, I respectfully request that all parents/guardians observe new procedures that will be in place, and shared with all, once the vestibule project is fully completed.
It is also an honor for me to be part of the celebration of the Wandell School Centennial. There are a number of activities planned throughout the course of the year to help our students recognize and celebrate the rich history of Wandell School and the Saddle River community at large.
Soon after the opening of school parents will be receiving the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) Individual Student Reports for year two of the assessment. Once again, the students of Wandell School have distinguished themselves as extremely high achieving and exceeded their own performance from year one at almost every level. These results are a tribute to the hard work of teachers, parents, and of course our students. Congratulations to all.
In closing, I anticipate that the year will be busy, productive and focused on student growth both academically and socially. A collaborative effort by all stakeholders will best serve our students today and in the future. Please know that my door is always open and I available to discuss any concerns that may arise during the course of the year. Let’s work together and make this a memorable year for the students of Wandell School!
