Dr Ronzitti update
Happy new year and welcome back. Dr Ronzitti said that the winter concert was fantastic, a new standard has been set, thanks to Mr Lasalandra and mrs Ireland for their creative input.
The new HVAC system is working properly providing hot and also cold air when needed, having the work done last year in readiness for tis winter was without a doubt the right thing to do. A new professional development program is in place for the teachers using the IDE corporation and funded by the Wandell Education foundation. To date the IDE Corp have visited the School 4 times specifically training teachers on child assessment. The feedback from teachers has been positive as they have not received much training over the past few years.
CPR training has also been approved and been completed for 5 additional teachers in the school.
The new PARCC testing which replaced the NJ ASK test was
used for the first time last year , as this was a new test Dr Ronzitti did not have particularly high hopes for the results as there was so much going on at school . The fact that the children all had laptops and were able to complete the test in their homerooms seemed to pay off.
Wandell did better or at least matched the other public school districts, we scored higher than Ridgewood and alpine in most subjects .
The official results will be made available online very soon. Dr
Ronzitti said how proud he was of the students , Teachers and
parents for their support.
Dr ronzitti was asked what plans the school have to work on areas of weakness, his response was that this will be assessed and then worked into the teacher development programs.
two PARCC tests were taken last year and the results are a combined result of both tests, there will only be one PARCC test this year.
The casino night was a great success, the Has doubled what it made from the festival of trees and made approx $42-45,000. The Holiday store was a success we used the same vendor as last year as well as purchasing some items ourselves to see how the children liked them, we ran the store over two and a half days and took nearly $6,000 , of which the HSA receive about half. The HSA giving trays managed to circulate around 60 families during the month of December.
4 members of t he current HSA Board are due to step down at the end of this school year. 4 positions will become available, President, 1st vice president, 2nd vice President, secretary. The HSA cannot legally operate without 5 board members so if you are interested in any position or would like more information , please reach out to a current board member
This Community initiative will run a super bowl challenge in January where the children can donate cans of soup which will be donated to the needy.
The Jumpathon will take place on feb 8-10th , we normally raise between $10-12k for the heart Foundation.
Annual Dinner and fundraiser will take place at Seasons on Friday
Some funds raised at this years event will be used to replace the school smart boards and replace the current telephone system. An e mail will go out again with a donation wish list.
This years School play will be SHREK. This will take place on April 1st and 2nd.
Jordan McCadden has put together a tentative Rec scchedule for
the whole school year , this has been sent out by e mail.
Ski club was postponed but starts this week, there is a new STEM program for 1st and 2nd graders, and a magic program starting at the end of the month.
There will also be a new line of Wandell Wear.
John Lasalandra said that a advert has been placed for a new interim superintendant. the deadline for applications is January 22nd . Dr ronzitti plans to stay until the end of the school year. The BOE are extremely proud of the PARCC results and having the Laptops clearly made a difference.
Town Council update
Paul Schulstaad said that there had recently been a reorganization of the council and that he was revoted in as the school liaison.
The Council voted to spend $2200 to use the LAN company to look into a new generator for the town and school which could be used in an emergency.
